Dental infection?: A crown is usually placed over an tooth that is still living but not capable of functioning in its environment. The crown protests what's left of the tooth ; the proper spacing of the teeth. If a tooth with a crown is infected it may well need to come out depending on whether or not the dentist believes it can be saved. If you have an infection elsewhere ; need a crown discuss w/dentist first.
