Stimulants are more effective.: Non-stimulants are used in people who prefer not to be on a stimulant, who have anxiety disorders, have a prior history of addiction, or even along with a psychostimulant in the event that they have not responded adequately. The other non- stimulants are often used adjunctively, or in the case of antidepressants, in an attempt to treat both conditions simultaneously. Some people prefer the use of antidepressants especially if they are effective in a given individual.
