I was wondering are rollers more effective than sit ups?

Just different: Variety is helpful in any exercise regimen, including core/abdominal work. Understand that rollers tend to place more strain on your wrists and lower back, while sit ups can place undue stress on your neck. You may want to also consider planks, and the many variants. Best of luck.
