Clear diagnosis: It can be common to wake up from a vivid dream and have some anxiety, rapid pulse, deep breathing. Stress reduction such as breathing exercises can help improve sleep and decrease anxiety, as can "sleep hygiene" techniques. A true panic attack especially if recurrent, should be evaluated. Panic attacks need a coordinated approach as the sufferer can feel they are "going to die".
