Scleral shells: There are shields that go directly on the eyeball underneath the eyelids called scleral shells. Your eyes have to be numbed with eye drops. Then a protective gel is placed in the shell, your eyelids are pulled back, and the shell is placed on your eye. Shells are often used during plastic surgery of the eyelids in order to protect the globe (eyeball). Good luck with your procedure!
