Probably because...: One ate more food or drinks, meaning calories, than one used up during that week. Some women also hold onto water-weight and/or poop-weight during certain days of their menstrual cycle. If those days happen to be at the same time as when she eats too many calories, then the sudden weight gain will even be more striking. To not gain weight, one cannot eat more calories than one uses up!
