Is it normal to have a fever of 99 at night same day as my discectomy?

Atelectasis: Not normal but can happen. Usually so soon after surgery is related to atelectasis or sub normal expansion of the lungs . Deep breathing and use of incentive spirometer is also recommended. Also low grade fever could be related to drug reaction at this stage .Too early for a wound i infection.. Urinary infection could also cause fever now

Common: Low grade temperature after surgery is most likely from atelectasis, or incompletely expanded lungs. Patients in pain take shallow breaths, and develop low grade fever. Walking, using the incentive spirometer are common ways to prevent fever after surgery. Definitely check in with your surgeon if the fever continues.
