Callus: The tip of the nail bed can sometime have a callus that interrupts the path of the nail growth. It may be prudent to trim away at the callus at the tip of the nail bed. However if the nail is now growing directly toward the base of the nail bed, then you may need to see your local podiatrist for specific treatment options.

See a podiatrist: Nail beds can be very sensitive. You can try applying vaseline to soften the nail or filing it. Short of that see a foot doctor.
