See dermatologist: A skin lesion that has been there for 5 years and is not healing is reason to see a dermatologist. This could be an infection, something benign, but also a malignant condition, such as a melanoma. See a dermatologist, who may do an excisional biopsy in order to make a diagnosis.

Nonhealing wounds: In general, lesions that act as you describe are suspect for skin cancer. Your age would make this unlikely. Regardless, you should see your doctor for an evaluation and further treatment.
