Stress and allergies: Yes, stress can worsen allergies. Stress basically impairs parts of your immune system that fight infection while causing other chemicals to enter your system that worsen inflammation. Some of these so-called inflammatory cytokines worsen allergy symptoms and allow mast cells to secrete more histamine. Some of the cytokines enter the brain when they normally would not and induce more stress.
