Start with behavior: Your son's age is important. Behavioral therapy is necessary even if medications are used. Your son needs evaluation by specialist. Seeing a developmental pediatrician, neurologist, psychiatrist, or/and psychologist could be helpful. Finding the cause of behavior is key to managing it rather than just treating symptoms. Effective treatment must include the whole family.

TANTRUMS:: First, find out cause, go accordingly. New onset? Look for the stressors: home: too strict/many rules, problem with sibling/s if any, sleep, rest, health, etc; school: bullying, peers, academic performance, etc. Talk to him, offer help, practice positive re-enforcement. Talk to his teacher. If further help needed, the best person is his pediatrician, may need add/adhd evaluation/counselling.

A 7-year-old boy: who takes Intuniv & requires Speech/Language & Occupational Therapy must have diagnoses of ADHD & Specific Learning Disability. For school to provide therapy, he had a Multidisciplinary Team Evaluation & an IEP, both of which a child psychologist needs to review. If consistent behavioral techniques are not effective, Ph.D. may refer to a Developmental/Behavioral Pede. &/or Child Psychiatrist. .
