Discipline: Not sure what you'd like from us for this common problem. Remember children need discipline and gentle teaching on what behaviors are acceptable and what are not. Throwing a tantrum means he has probably gotten away with this attempt to manipulate you in the past. Let him throw a tantrum. But do not let him out of his bed into yours.

Who's the boss ?: Explain to your son that the sleeping arrangements on the trip were something "special" and that it's not done all the time. He may throw a tantrum, but kids do that from time to time. Parenting is all about getting through these little problems. A comforting backrub when he awakens should put him at ease and back to sleep. Lead by example and don't get upset.. It will heighten the tension @ 3 am.

Tough love: It is time to return to the prior routine and enforce it. Have a calming pre-sleep routine and let him settle, read to him and leave. Stress that he is to stay in his room if he wakes and enforce it. Return him to bed every time he comes to your bed. Tell him the door to his room can stay open if he stays in his room, but close it if he leaves.Check out ferber-solve your childs sleep problem.
