Not a cure: The flu shot does not mean you won't get it. It just gets your immune system "prepared" for it. You can still get the flu, but it will be much milder than had you not been vaccinated. This is why we encourage it for people with immune systems that are not 100% (infants, pregnant, elderly, hiv, etc.).

Don't be pessimistic: Last years' flu shot missed the mark, and was but 13% effective according to the cdc, but this year four potential strains are addressed, and the prediction is for about 70% efficacy. It is worthwhile to lower your risk of becoming sick, and the injection is unlikely to cause any major reaction.
