Influenza can kill: Well I'm a strong advocate of getting flu shots -it's the best prevention we have, short of living in a plastic bubble the entire flu season. That said, you have a 90% chance of NOT getting the flu each season, but on the chance you do get it, watch out. Flu kills 3,000 - 49,000 Americans/yr according to stats. Flu can kill younger folks too by setting you up for a bacterial infection (1-2 punch).

Influenza: As a young strong healthy young man, you may never have had the flu! It can be miserable - high fever, shaking chills, body pains. Reasons to protect yourself - not missing a week's salary, not infecting elderly friends and relatives, as well as babies and small children. As a physician, I cannot be out of commission during flu season.
