Maybe COPD: Hyperaeration of lungs on a chest xray is caused by abnormal increase in total capacity for air in the lungs. This increased air expansion makes the lungs darker on an xray (more lucent than normal). It is not necessarily an abnormality, but often seen in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (copd). Examples of this include patients with asthma or heavy smokers with emphysema.

Overaeration lungs: Hyperaeration means lungs contain larger amount of air than normally expected. Has many causes.. In children can be seen with diseases causing air trapping such as bronchiolitis, asthma, cystic fibrosis, congenital heart disease, early aspiration, and metabolic acidosis. In adults airtrapping usually associated with asthma or COPD (emphysema) and other diffuse lung diseases..
