My baby has mucus in his eye. what causes this?

Mucus : Mucus in a babys eye may be a reaction to the drops or ointment instilled in the baby's eyes to prevent gonorrhea.

Viral or bacterial: Usually the same germs (viruses or bacteria) that cause an upper respiratory tract infection (a cold), cause a pink eye. Sometimes young babies also have a blocked tear duct that presents as eye discharge- clear to mucoid. Please have you child see their doctor.
