A member asked:

How and why does secondary pulmonary tuberculosis occur in lung apices? i am a med student and i can't figure this out

A doctor has provided 1 answer

TB: Mycobacterium tuberculosis is an aerophilic organism that grows best in areas in which the po2 is highest, like the apices of the lungs. You sound like a very bright and enterprising medical student and should keep asking questions the rest of your career. The more you understand about pathophysiology the better the clinician you will become. Loved to have students like you. Best wishes.
