Infection ?: See a local oral surgeon to be evaluated for an infection. Infections and swelling of the tongue can become dangerous very quickly, pushing your tongue back into your throat causing difficulty in breathing. Tongue jewelry has been known to crack and break off tooth structure when you bite it, just so you know.

Tongue piercing: Take the ring out, rinse with some salt water and see a dentist as soon as possible for an evaluation. Consider never having any oral piercings as they often lead to infections, broken teeth, lacerations and worse. Find another, less dangerous way to express your individuality.
