Zyprexa, Saphris (asenapine) ; $: If there is no particular clinical reason not to let you have saphris (asenapine), (asenapine) it could be the doctor's unfamiliarity with the drug or it is possible that it is not being prescribed because it is not a covered benefit of your insurance plan or is not on the hospital formulary. Zyprexa has a generic and saphris (asenapine) does not, so saphris (asenapine) is much more expensive and may not be prescribed for that reason.

A/W Dr. Jacobson: Your insurance may not cover Saphris (asenapine). According to the Drugs.com price guide you may be paying $19.22 per pill for Saphris. It you can afford to pay this out of pocket and your doctor is familiar with prescribing the medication - then it may be something that you and your provider can negotiate.
