Who's the boss ?: It is understandable that she does not want to be in pain, but it is also understandable that she would want straight teeth. Explain to her that she is not the only one going thru this, and that the "discomfort" is finite in duration. Otc pain meds should help. Have a talk together with the orthodontist.

Painless: Palatal ex panders should be painless. Pressure of very short duration is to be expected, but no frank pain. Return immediately to orthodontist to have expansion system checked.

My Thoughts....: First, call the orthodontist to discuss the problem and how best to remedy. Second, tell your daughter that you spoke to the orthodontist and he\she would like to see both of you in order to make sure everything is ok, and this shouldn't happen again. Perhaps smaller adjustments and longer time between adjustments. It can all be worked out. Be understanding and compassionate but firm.
