See Oral Surgeon: It would be best to see an oral surgeon who can actually examine you and first determine whether or not you would benefit from any surgical procedure. There may be a periodontal reason for surgery as well. If needed, the os can answer all your questions better than we can. In general it's a simple procedure and will not affect speech, etc.

Tongue tied: The procedure is called a frenectomy or a lingual frenulectomy. When done, you may notice more freedom and movement in your tongue and less pressure or 'pull' on the gum tissue near the front teeth. This can be done with a soft tissue laser that will keep any bleeding to a minimum.
