Pleurisy or pericarditis. how can you tell the difference?

EKG: Pleurisy- inflammation of the lining of lung and pericarditis is inflammation of lining of heart. Pericarditis is more severe and need medical attention. Most of the cases of pleurisy subside with symptomatic management.

Medical exam and EKG: Pleurisy is an inflammation of the pleura (tissue lining around the lung cavity. It is caused usually by infections, but can also be caused by autoimmune diseases or trauma. Unlike pericarditis, the ekg is usually normal. Pericarditis is an inflammation of the lining around the heart. It is usually caused by infection (mostly viral), but can also be caused by heart attack, post bypass surgery.
