Call doc: Don't stop taking your med without talking to your doctor. Call the doctor who prescribed the statin and let him know your symptoms. He might be able to find alternatives.

Common side effect: Statins are known to cause muscle pains. If that is what you refer to as 'melting' then it may be so. Some are more likely to cause this side effect than others. Also keep in mind that there are other drugs that may serve you well in reducing cholesterol. So i encourage you to contact your doctor to let him know of your symptoms and allow him the chance to plan your next move.
