? Sleep study: First of all, excessive daytime sleepiness, insomnia, and excessive urinary frequency are all symptoms of sleep apnea. If possible get a sleep study done to rule out causes for your severe insomnia. When Amitriptyline is combined with Remeron (mirtazapine) there is always a rare risk of a serotonin syndrome. While that risk is low, it does nevertheless exist. Also, combining Remeron (mirtazapine) with Amitriptyline is a sure recipe for massive weight gain.I would recommend that you see a sleep specialist and have an overnight polysomnogram performed. Before adding in Amitriptyline i would talk to your doctor about freezing the dose of Remeron (mirtazapine) first. Realize however thatlower doses of Remeron (mirtazapine) are more sedating thanhigher doses in some people. Best wishes.
