Depends on Number: The type of LDL particle (small, dense pattern B versus large, fluffy pattern A) is not a key factor in determining LDL-related risk. Although pattern B is associated with increased cardiovascular risk, the reason is due to the number of LDL particles (LDL-P). if LDL-P is elevated, heart disease risk is elevated for pattern A or pattern B. If LDL-P is low, risk is low for pattern A or pattern B.
