A member asked:

Was hoping to deliver first child before age 35. would delivering after 35 cause health issues or complications for my baby? hoping to be pregnant soon.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Not necessarily: The health focus on deliveries over 35 is more because the risks of a chromosome defect like Down syndrome increases 5x that of the 16-29 age group. All pregnancies have a basic 4% risk of unexpected outcome (premi, cleft palate, sick, etc.) and being over 35 adds less than 1% to that number. The effect of your age on a normal baby is not that significant. In many, age permits a broader outlook.
