?carpal tunnel: Sounds like this may be carpal tunnel syndrome, a compression of the median n. Beneath the palm. Can be aggravated by heavy work and repetitive motion. Frequently causes episodes of numbness and discomfort in the hands, at night, causing the patient to waken, then shake and/or rub the hands for relief. If this sounds right, see your doctor. Could require surgery.Good luck.
