causes hypertension: Long term diabetes can lead to hardening of the arteries (ahterosclerosis) and high blood pressure (especially the upper number, the "systolic pressure"). Having high blood pressure plus diabetes greatly increases your chance of stroke and heart attack. Keep your blood sugar and blood pressure under control to minimize the risk.
