Qualified Yes: Many diagnoses are made on clinical exam alone. Before the advent of ct scanning and high resolution ultrasound (which is suggestive, not conclusive), appendectomies proceeded on physical exam and history alone. I would listen to your doctor's advice since he/she is the one who actually saw and examined you.

appendicitis: A skilled examiner will be able to diagnose appendicitis quite easily. A previous 'normal' ct means nothing with the development of acute symptoms. Delaying or deferring treatment is what leads to bad outcomes when he appendix ruptures.
