Not serious: Dequervains' tendonitis is inflammation of the thumb tendons( 1st dorsal compt. For orthopedic surgeons). The most common tendonitis seen in the hand. Waiting to have a dequervain's release will cause no long term problems that I am aware of. ( you'll just have to put up w/ the discomfort until u can get it done)... Often a well-placed injection and splinting can " buy time" until your surgery.!

DeQuervains Syndrome: An irritation of the tendons at the base of the thumb. Pain over the thumb-side of the wrist is the main symptom. The pain may appear either gradually or suddenly, and pain is located at the first dorsal compartment. Tenderness directly over the tendons on the thumb-side of the wrist is the most common finding. Hand and thumb motion increases pain, especially with forceful grasping or twisting.
