Whenever you want: Once you become pregnant, let your doctor know. Because of complex physiologic hormonal changes that occur during pregnancy, you will need additional thyroid hormone to ensure proper development of the baby. Typically this is a 30-50% increase. Because your body is unable to compensate for the increased need, you will need to increase your synthroid (thyroxine) dose.
