Aspiration: ...Does not always mean you vomited. Most aspiration occurs during sleep, and the truth is that nealy all pneumonia (except tb) results from aspiration of oral contents. Most of the time your normal defense mechanisms prevent pneumonia, but occasionally, enough of the wrong kind of bugs are able to overcome your normal defenses and you get sick. Its a miracle it doesn't happen more often.
