It is a habit: Let your child know that she is alright and that waking you up is not ok and that she must stay in bed until the morning. Soon she will learn that she must go back to sleep and she will learn to put herself back to sleep. She needs assurrance in the beginning but do not allow her out of bed.

complex: At age of 4 maybe he needs less sleep. Also intrinsic sleep issues like sleep disordered breathing can cause this ask your pediatrician or a sleep doc.
