Degenerative disks: Discography is used to either help determine if the disk in question is the pain generator or to see if there is an anatomic abnormality of the disk. Some specialist swear by them others see little to no value. I good exam and an MRI can also be of help. I would not do a discogram if you are not interested in surgical treatment of your pain.

Leaky disc: I am not familiar with the term "leaky disc" likely you have a disc herniation and that is diagnosed on MRI scans. Discograms are rather uncommon these days with the newer radiology diagnostic tests available.

try it: Discography can be a good diagnostic tool if the discogram reproduces your pain then the disc is the problem and disc removal may alleviate your symptoms.
