See a dermatologist: It is difficult to make a proper diagnosis since I am not there to see the condition. I recommend seeing a dermatologist so that they can make a proper diagnosis and give you something to get rid of the condition or relieve symptoms.

Lubriderm for skin: There are many very good lotions on the market. My patients seem to do better with ones that do not have perfumes and coloring agents in them. Lubriderm is one of my favorite lotions. Aveeno (oatmeal) products are also very useful for dry, itchy skin.

Cortisone cream: Topical cortisone cream (ie: cortaid, hydrocortisone), moisturizers containing anti-itch ingredients such as camphor, menthol, Lidocaine (ie: sarna, eucerin anti-itch spray, neutrogena anti-itch lotion). Also helpful to use aveeno oatmeal bath. And take antihistamines such as benadryl, (diphenhydramine) claritin, zyrtec, allegra. If combining all these does not help, see a doctor for prescription meds.

Moisturizer: When showering, use luke warm water and keep the contact time less than five minutes. Use a soap free cleanser (cetaphil, dove sensitive skin, olay). Afterwards, use an oil-free, fragrance-free moisturizer.

Dr. Roman Bronfenbrener answered

Moisturizer: Using a good moisturizer to help the skin stay hydrated is the first step. Some patients like something like sarna sensitive, which has a topical anesthetic in it as well as moisturizers. If its severe, see a doctor, as several systemic diseases can present with uncontrollable itch.

Eucerin cream: Eucerin cream before you towel dry after a shower. It is absorbed better on the moist skin, then gently pat the skin dry.
