Genital HSV Rx: The safest treatment for herpes simplex virus infection is Acyclovir wh/requires a prescription from your doctor. Once infected, however, you never 'cure' hsv it is only made latent (dormant) unfortunately, topical Acyclovir is no more effective that vaseline in treating hsv. For oral cold sores, abreva has shown efficacy in decreasing the duration of symptoms however no studies on genital hsv.
