Confusion/hurt: Children, who may not understand that their parent’s behavior and mood is determined by the amount of alcohol or other drugs in their bloodstream, can feel confused and insecure. They love their parents and worry about them, and yet feel angry and hurt that their parents do not love them enough to stop using when they are old enough to understand.

They might lose you.: Addiction causes preoccupation with the addicting substance. This can lead to child abuse, neglect or worse. You need to get help. There are many resources available but you need to take the first step. Try your county or state mental health office. There are many online self-help resources as well.
