Good question-: Knowing that a majority of sore throats are caused by viral (not bacterial) infections, antibiotics will not work . Give it about a week for your body's immune system to deal with it. Supportive mgmt may help. However, if it doesn't get better, symptoms worsen, you can't swallow or take anything by mouth, your breathing is affected, or you feel absolutely terrible, call your doctor immediately.
