Probably not: Most colds are due to viruses and antibiotics do not work on them. All you end up with are the side effects from the antibiotics and increasing antibiotic resistance to other things. http://www.webmd.com/cold-and-flu/cold-guide/antibiotics-colds

Antibiotics: Control bacterial infections but do NOT cure viral infections. Call your Physician, the one that prescribed antibiotics for your husband, for advice.
