Wrong approach: Toothache = infection. Taking a pain reliever may mask symptoms as the infection spreads. See dentist asap to have infection treated and the pain will go away.

Need a dentist: You need to see a dentist and get treated for your toothache. An infection will not go away without treatment. You can take otc pain medications, salt water rinse, or ice to relieve your pain until you see a dentist.

OTC and DDS: Take whatever you would normally take for a headache (advil, motrin, aleve, tylenol, (acetaminophen) etc.) and call a dentist to get treatment and relief as soon as possible.
