A member asked:

Dad takes whole bottle of tylenol/wk, excedrin the next wk, then ibuprofen. he cycles through these pain meds wkly. he said his doc rxed this? bad?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

possibly: Acetaminophen, the drug in tylenol (acetaminophen) is toxic to the liver in high doses. The maximum daily dose recommended is 3000mg per day. People who consume alcohol or other drugs which are toxic to the liver and taking tylenol (acetaminophen) are at greater risk for liver damage. Otc medications for cold and flu often have high doses of Acetaminophen included. Very high chronic doses of Ibuprofen can damage the kidneys.
