How accurate and realiable is a gallium scan for diagnosing lymphoma and other kinds of cancer?

not diagnostic: The only truly accurate diagnosis is a biopsy. That gallium can reveal abnormalities suggestive of infection or tumor but you need a biopsy to be sure.

Ga scan for lymphoma: Gallium was previously used often for lymphoma imaging. Currently it is used mostly for infection imaging. Pet/ct is most frequently used currently for lymphoma imaging although ga still works.

Diagnosis w biopsy: Gallium accumulates in large percentage of lymphoma but also ha predilection for infection and other kinds of tumors. Pet scan is more accurate in detecting involvement and extent of lymphoma. Diagnosis is only made by biopsy. Following effect of therapy gallium and pet very useful.
