Eventually: The only urgent need for repair is if there is an imminent risk of incarceration; however, at your age, it is highly likely you'll eventually need surgery. The optimal approach varies based on patient factors and surgeon preference.I favor the laparoscopic approach due to less pain/faster recovery, especially for double- or recurrent hernias.Like all operations, experience matters!

No: I usually recommend surgery for patients experiencing pain or if the hernia was previously incarcerated. You should have it evaluated to determine if you need surgery. Laparoscopic is the best way to go, why subject yourself to a large incision and a difficult recovery course. That said, both repairs are equal, but no one offers an open gallbladder surgery as a first option anymore!
