Nothing good!: As we age, our bodies can no longer break down the alcohol as it once did. Add to that the med regimens for the lupus and for whatever other meds you take and it's easy to see your liver being overwhelmed. It's time to stop.

How big a cocktail: The safe limit for drinking in women is one standard drink (1.5 oz of 80 proof alcohol) per day. However, if you have heart damage, kidney problems or other issues associated with lupus, it might not be safe for you. Your rheumatologist needs to know about your drinking (they should ask, often don't). Tell them and ask them about drinking, since they know your health better than i would.
