Child going to gi dr for possible chrons or celiac disease. what test will be done ?

GI work ups..: Vary from dr to dr but most will check for antibodies against gluten which is a wheat protein. This involves bloodwork. The dr will also look for signs of inflammation and will probably check a sed rate and/or CRP because crohn's is less likely will normal values. Endoscopy is sometimes indicated but generally not on first visit. Expect some bloodwork before more invasive procedures.

Blood, stool, ?scope: A history and physical exam will be most important. They will very likely start with blood tests. Often they get stool tests which can take a few days to come back. Based on all of this data they will decide on whether your child needs an endoscopy or colonoscopy which is a direct look in the bowels with a small camera. Good luck!
