Cool mist: The best thing for a child suffered from a croupy cough is to calm him down, and place him in front of cool mist. Croup is caused by a virus the induces inflammation and swelling of the upper airway. Cool mist calms the cough. Believe it or not, taking your child out into the cool night air and sitting quietly will often relieve the discomfort.
