In the early to mid 80's i remember my pediatrician giving me a series of shots for poison ivy.what was it called and why was it taken off the market?

Desensitization: Attempts were made to decrease the allergic response to the resin contained within poison ivy , oak and sumac by giving small amounts of the allergen by a series of injections. However, the success of this desensitization has been generally inconsistent, at best.
