Allergy vs asthma?: Your cough might represent a bronchoconstrictive reaction to an airborne allergen or could be evidence of cold-induced asthma. In other words, pollen could cause an allergic reaction in your lungs leading to tightening or narrowing of your bronchioles (breathing tube). The best way to get air out is to force it out via cough. Some are sensitive to cold environment eg cold-induced asthma.
