Chickenpox: Chickenpox is a very contagious from one day before to approximately one week after the illness. One is no longer contagious once all blisters have dried up and scabbed. However, you will not contract chickenpox again if you had the disease previously.

Depends: Active chickenpox is a reason for expulsion from day care until all the blisters have dried up. They then are not contageous. If the kid has new active chickenpox, breathing the same air in the same room for 30 min is enough exposure to pass it to a vulnerable person. If they have had it before they are immune.
