Depends: For postemenopausal women, screening recommended by age 65, for men 70. For those with risk factors like use of steroids, rheumatoid arthritis, or family history of hip fracture etc, screening is done sooner and if bones are a little thin (osteopenia) treatment for prevention is started if risk for hip fracture >3% or all fracture >20% based on calculations.
